Membership FAQ

The questions we get asked most. Anything not answered here, email info@miclca.org.

Who can join?

Membership is open to learning center professionals at any postsecondary institution operating in Michigan: faculty, staff, and students. That includes writing center directors and consultants, math and science learning center staff, tutoring and Supplemental Instruction coordinators, academic coaches, TRIO and student success staff, testing center staff, and disability and accessibility services colleagues whose work touches academic support. You do not have to work somewhere that calls itself a learning center.

What does it cost?

Professional membership is $35 a year. Student membership is $10. Emeritus membership is $10. Lifetime memberships, awarded for service to the profession, carry no dues.

When does membership run?

July 1 through June 30, regardless of when you join. A membership purchased in March runs through June 30 of that same year.

What does membership include?

Voting rights in association elections, eligibility to hold office and serve on committees, the statewide learning center directory, and access to MICLCA programming. That currently includes an online session on Thursday, October 15, 2026, 12:00 noon to 1:30 PM ET, and the inaugural annual conference on Monday, May 17, 2027 at Wayne State University in Detroit. Members register for the conference at $35 less than the nonmember rate, which means the conference discount covers the cost of membership.

Can students join?

Yes, at $10, for anyone enrolled at least half-time and not employed full-time by a Michigan postsecondary institution. Student members vote, serve on committees, and can bring business before any meeting. Student members are not eligible to hold office.

Do I need to be an ICLCA member too?

MICLCA board members are required to be current, active members of ICLCA. All other members are encouraged but not required. MICLCA is the Michigan affiliate of the International College Learning Center Association.

Is MICLCA a registered nonprofit?

Yes. MICLCA is a Michigan nonprofit corporation (entity ID 900193897) and a 501(c)(3) public charity under section 509(a)(2), effective April 8, 2026. EIN 39-5054250. Contributions are tax deductible. See Governance for the full public records.

My center is missing from the directory, or its information is wrong.

Email info@miclca.org and tell us what to fix. The directory was compiled from institutions’ own public web pages, so gaps and stale links are expected. You do not need to be a member to have an entry corrected, added, or removed.
