Accessibility at MICLCA

MICLCA exists to support the people who support students, including students with disabilities. This site should work for everyone, and we would rather tell you where it falls short than claim it is perfect.

The standard we work to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That is the level most United States institutions use as a benchmark, and the level referenced by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What this site does

  • A skip link at the top of every page moves straight to the main content.
  • Every image has alternative text, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Every form field has a visible, associated label.
  • Each page has one main heading and a heading structure without skipped levels.
  • Text meets the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio against its background.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and scroll effects are turned off.
  • Pages are readable and usable at 200 percent zoom and on small screens.
  • The governance documents are text-based PDFs, not scans, so they can be read aloud and searched.

What we know is not yet conformant

These are real and we are working on them.

  • The learning center directory uses JavaScript for filtering and search. Without JavaScript you still get the full list of every institution and center with working links, but not the service tags or filters.
  • This site has not had a full screen reader test end to end, and it has not been audited by an independent third party.

Telling us about a barrier

If something on this site does not work for you, email info@miclca.org. Tell us the page and what happened. You do not need to know the technical cause, and you do not need to be a MICLCA member.

We will acknowledge your message and tell you what we can do and by when. If we cannot fix something quickly, we will offer the information another way.

Our events

For accommodation requests at MICLCA events, including captioning, email info@miclca.org when you register or as soon as you know what you need. Asking early helps, but ask late rather than not at all.
