Building a Collective Vision
MICLCA's first gathering. A participatory session for anyone working in academic support at a Michigan college or university, whether or not you are a member.
We will spend most of the time in small breakout groups rather than listening to presentations. What do learning center professionals in this state actually need from a statewide association? What problems are worth solving together? Groups report back, and what we hear shapes the association's first year of programming.

Beyond the Content: Elevating Peer Educator Training with the Science of Learning
This webinar provides learning center professionals who train peer educators with a framework for translating the science of learning into evidence-based strategies that enhance student academic performance.
Throughout their academic careers, students are typically taught what to learn but rarely how to learn, leaving them reliant on ineffective study strategies that give rise to frustration, avoidance, and procrastination. Participants will leave with a set of training activities that map these principles to the moments peer educators actually encounter in a session, along with language for explaining them to students.
Peer educators who work this way help students build habits that transfer beyond GPA, including improved academic confidence, more efficient use of study time, and improved concentration in both lecture and independent study.

MICLCA Vice President
Angela oversees Wayne State's primary learning support services and leads the university's Student Success Collaborative. She began at Wayne State in 2007 as a Learning Specialist working at the intersection of cognition and physical wellness, later completing training through the Neuroscience and the Learning Brain Institute at UC Santa Barbara and building a program that helps staff and faculty apply cognitive neuroscience research in their work with students.

MICLCA Inaugural Annual Conference
MICLCA's first annual conference and annual general meeting. Concurrent sessions from Michigan practitioners, a keynote address, a guided visit to a Wayne State learning center, and the 2027-28 board election results. Full agenda coming soon.
Members register at $35 less than the non-member rate. If you are not a member, the non-member registration includes a full year of MICLCA membership, so either way you leave the conference a member.
